Name of client:  Wang

Background Information

Wang is a 23-year-old girl from China mainland who was trafficked in Malaysia into prostitution. She had been serving customers for more than six months since November 2002.

She is the middle child with one elder brother aged 26-year-old and a 21-year-old younger sister. Both of the parents are farmers and aged 53 and 51 years old respectively living in a remote countryside in Guangxi.

Chronology of Events

· She was working in the farm before coming to Malaysia. Her purpose of getting a job in Malaysia was hoping that she could earn enough to buy a house. She felt that it was important for her brother to own a house in order to ‘attract’ other girls. She had this idea since Chinese New Year 2002.

· In Sept 2002, she met her childhood girlfriend on her way back to hometown, her friend told her that it is good to work in Malaysia and earn good money. Two days later, Wang was invited to Guilin with intention to know more about the working situation in Malaysia. She met four men (one was her childhood friend’s boyfriend) and her childhood girlfriend. During the meeting, they did not seem to ‘force’ Wang to make a decision but they shared others’ wonderful working experience in Malaysia. She went back the following day. Wang still hesitated about the idea that time but rather moved by the lucrative income in Malaysia.

· In October 2002, Wang decided to come to Malaysia after some considerations mainly on the fact that she wants to build a decent house for her brother. She lied to her father that she will be working in Guangdong (capital of Guangzhou). She managed to get her passport after half a month. There was another four childhood girlfriends who expressed their interest also.

· She spent RMB 4,000 for the whole process (passport RMB330, air ticket RMB2,000 and etc). She borrowed RMB1, 600 from her childhood girlfriend and RMB500 for her girlfriend’s boyfriend. She has some saving when she worked in Guangdong’s factory after schooling.

· On 18 Nov 2002, five of them reached Guangzhou in the morning and somebody was waiting for them and brought them to a hotel for resting. The flight was at 3.30pm, one male stranger guided them all the way to Malaysia’s custom and he left them at the arrival hall. They were given RMB 2, 000 each for entering Malaysia but was returned to the pimps later day. They met the pimps, Ah Ping, Lili(Ah Ping’s wife) and Ah Shu in the airport.

· They were led to a condominium in Puchong (they were being the first five residents). Five of they rested  for two days. On 20 Nov they were told that they were sold for RM10, 000 each and were forced into prostitution on 22 Nov 2002.

· After realizing that she was being cheated, she called her childhood friend in China. Her friend was crying over the phone and saying that her boyfriend left her and seemed that she was not aware of the trap at all.
