Privacy policy

Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) takes your privacy on the Internet as extremely important . This privacy statement describes WAO’s policy with regards to the gathering and sharing of visitors’ information through the WAO website, within the “wao.org.my” domain name. By visiting the WAO website you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information WAO collects

Normal website usage

Visitors generally can browse the WAO site without sharing any personal information or revealing details or who you are.  WAO gathers information from general browsing from standard server logs.  Information such as your IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, and information such as the files you downloaded, the pages you visit, and the dates/times of those visits.

Collection of personally identifiable information

If you sign up for our newsletter, log on to WAO site, order a book or other merchandise, request information, provide feedback, apply for a job, join a discussion group or join an electronic mailing list, you will be asked to provide personal information such as your name, postal address and e-mail address.  This information is collected only with your knowledge and permission, and is kept in various WAO databases.  If you are donating on the web, you may be asked to provide your credit card details.

Joining electronic discussion groups may mean that other participants of the discussion group (including non-WAO employees) will see personal information that you have volunteered.  For open discussion groups, this information will be public.

Special note about information from children

A site within the WAO domain is  focused on children, including interactive sites such as group discussions for ‘Girls Takeover’ on discord platform .  Some of these require user-specific information to be provided to WAO.  We ask for the minimum amount of personal information and request for parent’s consent in this case.

The Girls’ Takeover and other child related site within  WAO site are for children and authorized adults only and unauthorized adults are not to participate in these parts of the WAO site.  (Obtaining user information helps us in that regard if needed.)

Children should make sure their parents, or the adults who are caring for them, know they are participating in the Girls’ Takeover discord platform and are providing this limited user information.

WAO usage of the information

Web usage

Data collected during the general browsing of the domain “wao.org.my” is used to improve the site’s user experience and to track trends and usage of the site. Site usage is not linked with any personal information, should you however,  have registered and subscribed to the WAO newsletter within the WAO site, the information that is collected will be on your email address which will be identifiable to you.

Personally identifiable information

WAO may use the personal information you provide to:

  • Contact you – to keep you updated on WAO news by sending you newsletters,documents, publications etc and respond to feedback or a query,
  • The processing of volunteer signups, internship and job application;
  • Confirm your donations, subscription and purchases on the site;
  • Obtain payment for purchases through the site (via credit card);
  • Undertake statistical analysis.

Non disclosure of personal information to WAO

It is optional to provide personal information on the WAO web site. You can still browse and use the site without sharing your personal information, however certain actions such as online donations, purchasing items, subscribing for a newsletter, or applying for a job will not be possible.

Changing personal information and Opt out requests

You are free to change or cancel subscription to the newsletter at any point in time by unsubscribing the newsletter upon receiving it. Where contact details are not provided on the page, you can contact partnership@wao.org.my for further information.

Security

WAO does not engage in the selling and sharing of any personal data information on any WAO platform – website and social media platforms. However, in order to support you and survivors better, WAO shares some user information within our organisation in order to respond to your needs.  Any information provided by users of the WAO site is held with the utmost care and security by WAO, and will not be used in ways other than as set forth in this privacy policy, or in any site-specific policies, or in ways to which you have explicitly consented.  WAO has a range of techniques and security measures to protect the information maintained on our system from loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

WAO however will not be responsible for the security of information.

Notification of changes

Changes to this privacy policy will be posted here and will be available through the WAO home page at www.wao.org.my

Refund policy

I donated the wrong amount. Can I get a refund?

Yes. It is our refund policy that you are requested to immediately let us know of any request for refund or cancellation of donation. We require the original copy of the tax-exempt receipt to be returned to us, and for us to do the necessary bank reconciliation prior to processing any refund. It may take up to 30 days for us to process the refund.
