In 1994, Malaysia passed the Domestic Violence Act. The passing of the Act recognises domestic violence as an issue of public concern. The Act guarantees remedies such as Protection Orders and further spells out the responsibilities of protection officers. However, how effective are they in reality? This video documentary tells the stories of three victim survivors of domestic violence. These women have endured the abuse for many years until one day, they decided to speak up. How did the community respond? Were there enough support given to assist survivors of domestic violence?
This video documentary was produced as part of our on-going efforts to monitor the implementation of the Domestic Violence Act.
