Kuala Lumpur, 2 Sept 2010 – Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) is an independent, secular, non-governmental organisation based in Malaysia that is committed to eliminating violence against women. It was established in 1982 when it opened Malaysia’s first Women’s Refuge to provide shelter and counseling to battered women and their children. WAO opened a Child Care Centre in 1990, the first of its kind in Malaysia, to provide a home for the children of ex-residents’ of the Refuge WAO is also involved in public education to create awareness of violence against women and women’s rights, and undertakes advocacy on legal reform, including, policies and laws that discriminate against women.

A collaboration between Lactacyd, WAO and Guardian was established to raise awareness among consumers in Malaysia of WAO’s activities in promoting respect, protection and fulfillment of equal rights for women, and to work towards the elimination of discrimination against women and violence against women.

Lactacyd® has pledged a donation of RM 50,000 to support WAO’s activities through the launch of a special Lactacyd® Intimate Daily Feminine Hygiene Wash pack. This comprises a 250ml twin-pack and a 60ml complimentary pack. This 2-plus-1 pack is available nationwide only in Guardian outlets. The pack is priced at RM 33.88 and with every purchase, Lactacyd® will be donating RM 5.00 to WAO. Consumers can purchase the pack from 1 September 2010 until 30 November 2010.

• support social workers who accompany women to the police station, court and hospitals
