Wanita Suara Perubahan: ADUNs and MP’s to Receive an Important Package for International Women’s Day
ADUNs and MPs to receive an important package for International Women’s Day
Women in Malaysia have had enough of corruption and dirty politics – and on International Women’s Day 2012, “Wanita Suara Perubahan” is going to do something about it! Please send your reporters to witness this historic event!
When: Thursday 8 March at 11.30am
Where: Brickfields Pejabat Pos, Jalan Thambipillay, Kuala Lumpur
On 8 March at 11.30am, a coalition of organisations called “Wanita Suara Perubahan” will converge on the Brickfields post office to send white gloves to all ADUNs (Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri, the members of the State Legislative Assembly). Federal MPs are not spared – they will also be given white gloves during the first week of Parliament. More details on this will follow shortly.
Why send white gloves?
Gloves in hands symbolise clean government. A clean government is an accountable government, free from corruption and dirty politics. We want our elected representatives to commit to ensuring a clean government for Malaysia.
Why are women demanding a clean, corruption-free and accountable government?
Women are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of corruption, racism, exploitation, divisive politics and a curtailment of civil liberties. Millions of ringgit have been misspent that should have been used to ensure adequate housing, health, transportation, education, living wages and environmental protection. Women suffer the consequences of unjust laws as well as poor enforcement of laws relating to personal safety and gender-based violence.
“Wanita Suara Perubahan” calls upon all women voters to participate in the 13th General Elections and to choose good leaders in both State and Federal Governments – leaders who will accept and realise our demands, which are:
- A government free from corruption
- A decent living wage
- A better quality of life
- An end to gender-based violence
- Repeal of the Peaceful Assembly Act
- Free and fair elections
